<body-html>
This page goes over how all of this got started. I’ve spoken in front of literally hundreds of people giving this speech and I suppose it’s finally time to put it into words.

In March of 2006 everything was just coming together. We lived in a nice house, in a nice neighborhood with good friends. One sister was a happy newlywed, the other an Aggie and myself a busy sophomore. For four months if you asked me how my life was I would honestly say it was perfect.

But that summer on a trip to Costa Rica my mom noticed she had a little more belly fat than normal. My dad went on a diet with her but she stayed gaining weight at a massive rate while he lost his. The Dr. then diagnosed her with stage three almost stage four ovarian cancer. If you don’t know much about cancer (I still don’t know as much as I should) stage one is usually something small they can just cut out while stage four is that long and serious talk that no one wants to have about your options.

After surgery where the Dr’s removed 6-8 liters of cancer fluid (not a fond memory so I don’t remember the exact number) my dad told me that teal would have a greater impact on our lives. Apparently teal was the color for Ovarian Cancer and it wasn’t just Breast Cancer with a corresponding color. That gave me an epiphany that every cancer had a color and there must be a way to show who has been affected by what.

Through two clubs at school I was able to find David Ghem who is doing these shirts at a discount and a workforce of students to help me not only buy the shirts but also sell them to other students.

This project has since taken off, last year we sold shirts at two high schools and sold 750 shirts there and in the community. This year we’ve already started the year with 8 high schools and hopefully will have many more to come. Right now we’re at 15 High Schools for this semester and up to twenty next semester.

Cancer T Shirts does a lot but the two most apparent would be the awareness these shirts bring as well as the money raised. All the money that doesn’t pay for shirts,shipping or handling will go to fight cancer. On the website the money raised goes to Mansfield’s relay for life on behalf of cancer t shirts. When the t shirts are sold at schools by student organizations the money goes to any cancer cause they decide since they sold the shirts.

I don’t collect any money from this because all my life I’ve been taught to protect the women in my family and this is something I couldn’t protect my mom from, but feeling as I have to do something the harder my mom fights cancer the more I raise awareness.
</body-html>
